Johnny Graves
Johnny Graves is an ACTAR-accredited accident reconstructionist and retired Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Detective Sergeant from Traffic Homicide Investigations. He reconstructs collisions from physical evidence and investigative documentation and supports clear, defensible findings for counsel alongside Vantage’s human factors and biomechanics team.
Johnny Graves serves as an Accident Reconstructionist at Vantage Forensics, a multidisciplinary forensic consulting firm specializing in human factors, accident reconstruction, biomechanics, and expert testimony. An Accreditation Commission for Traffic Accident Reconstruction (ACTAR) reconstructionist (Reg. #1832, since 2007), he brings decades of Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office experience culminating as Detective Sergeant over Traffic Homicide Investigations.
His practice focuses on reconstructing traffic collisions from physical evidence, scene documentation, and investigative records, with particular depth in traffic homicide investigation, evidence preservation, and preparing materials and witnesses for court. Over a career spanning reserve and full-time service from the early 1990s through 2023, he progressed from patrol and school-resource work through detective and corporal roles into supervisory leadership of traffic fatality and related investigations, including regular sworn testimony in criminal and civil proceedings.
Johnny’s reconstruction foundation includes extensive specialized training through the Institute of Police Technology and Management (IPTM) and related programs—hundreds of hours in traffic crash investigation and DUI-related coursework—plus advanced scene investigation using forensic mapping and CAD, photographic and interviewing techniques for crash investigation, and instrumentation familiarization used in speed and acceleration analysis. He holds a B.A. in Criminal Justice from Saint Leo University and an A.A. in Business Administration from Hillsborough Community College.
At Vantage Forensics, Johnny’s reconstruction work is designed to integrate with in-house human factors and biomechanics analyses so physical event sequences and human-performance questions stay coordinated under one engagement.
